Coilquip upenders are made in the USA with the highest quality components at a price point that is competitive with used machines. We are a family run business with a great reputation that does business on a handshake. We do not use proprietary components that force the customer to buy expensive replacement parts; all parts are publicly sourced from within the United States.
When customers call, we answer the phone without charging for expensive maintenance or technical support contracts. Our machines also come with a one-year component warranty to cover any manufacturer defects. One easy way to tell that our tippers are higher quality than those of competitors is weight. We use thicker steel to withstand the rigors of heavy use. Every coil flipper comes with radio controls standard, which is a great benefit for the consumer.
1. Why are Coilquip’s quotes often lower than other manufacturers?
Coil Tippers is a family-run business that has operated on integrity and long-term relationships for over 40 years. We invest in high-quality capital equipment—prioritizing components made in the USA—and build our machines to a level of quality that typically exceeds customer expectations, all while remaining competitively priced.
Our mission is simple: over-satisfy our customers so they return and refer others. We strongly caution customers against directly comparing our machines to imported models—particularly from China—which are often built with thinner steel, lower-grade components, and offer little to no long-term support. Machine weight is often a good indicator of durability, as it reflects steel thickness and overall build quality.
2. What makes Coilquip different?
We intentionally overbuild our equipment. While our machines are not intended to be overloaded or misused, we use thicker-gauge steel, larger roller chains, and more robust motors wherever possible. This approach gives our customers the best chance for years of reliable, trouble-free operation.
3. Does Coilquip offer equipment other than upenders?
Our primary focus is the design and construction of new upenders. However, Coil Tippers began as a used-equipment brokerage, and we maintain an extensive network throughout the industry. We can often source used equipment or connect customers with trusted brokers and suppliers for other machinery. If you need something, just ask.
4. Should my company purchase a mechanical or hydraulic upender?
This decision largely comes down to preference and application.
Mechanical (PAC-MAN) Upenders
Capacities: 6,000–40,000 lbs (larger available upon request)
Max coil O.D.: 48″–80″
Smaller footprint
No hydraulic lines to leak
Side-loadable
Generally lower maintenance
Hydraulic Upenders
Capacity: 12,000 lbs
Max coil O.D.: 60″ or 72″
Approximately 20% lower cost
5. Does Coilquip offer custom work, upgrades, or add-ons?
Yes. We regularly build custom solutions, including extended decks, keeper bars, pit (in-floor) installations, coil-car integration, and more. Every machine is designed for true plug-and-play operation—so you never have to grind off fresh powder coat to make on-site modifications.
6. What control options are available?
All machines are wired for 24 volt controls and include:
A fob-style radio control (up to four can be programmed per machine)
A corded pendant for diagnostics or backup use
If you require a full-duty pendant or a dedicated control station, we can provide upgrades upon request.
7. Does Coilquip use proprietary parts?
No. All machines are built using publicly sourced components to ensure easy repairs and minimal downtime. While we are always available for support, our goal is to empower customers to service their equipment quickly and efficiently.
8. Are Coilquip machines painted?
No. Our machines are powder coated in our signature blue and yellow colors. Custom colors are available upon request.
9. Do Coilquip machines include a warranty?
We provide a one-year component warranty, which aligns with industry standards. This does not limit our willingness to support customers beyond the warranty period. Extended warranties or labor coverage can be arranged to meet corporate requirements, potentially at additional cost.
10. Is shipping included in the quoted price?
No. Customers may use our preferred shipping partner or arrange their own transportation. As with FOB shipping terms, we will load the machine onto any flatbed truck provided by the customer. Coil Tippers assumes no liability for incidents occurring during transit.
11. What are the electrical requirements?
We recommend working with a licensed electrician. Standard configurations support 208–480V / 3-phase, with single-phase 240V or 600V / 3-phase available upon request.
12. Why is the deck size smaller than the maximum coil O.D.?
Our machines are engineered to safely accommodate coil overhang at maximum diameter. For example, the MU12000V60 features a 48″ × 48″ deck while safely handling coils up to 60″ in outer diameter.
13. What is the cycle time?
Cycle time refers to tipping in one direction from start to finish.
Mechanical upenders: approximately 12–20 seconds (depending on size)
Hydraulic upenders: approximately 40 seconds
14. Does Coilquip build upenders for materials other than coils?
Absolutely. We build upenders—also known as tippers or flippers—for injection molds, dies, cable reels, transformers, paper rolls, commercial windows, and more. If your operation has a handling challenge, we can engineer a solution.
